Mesa is a city in Maricopa County, Arizona. It is the third largest city in the state and the 38th largest city in the United States. The 2013 population count tips the scales at 457,590 residents. The climate is ideal for residents who prefer sunny and mild winters to the cold, snow and ice of winter and the city has become a haven for retirees.

Tempe Elementary School District and Tempe Union High School District. All school districts that serve the city are highly rated and students rank high in the state mandated testing. There are also private schools in the city offering families an alternative to public school education.
Available real estate in the city includes single family homes, condominiums, townhouses and undeveloped residential properties. The price range for such property ranges from moderate to expensive. Residents who prefer to rent rather than purchase will find a variety of apartments for rent. The rents are reasonable and the apartments are single family residences, as well as apartment complexes. By all accounts the city is more of a neighborhood than a city with shopping, dining and employment within the city as well as within driving distance in the surrounding area.
History
The first settlers in the city were from Oregon and Utah. The settlers crossed the Colorado River at Lee’s Ferry and called the area Jonesville. They marked off an area of land they wished to claim, including the area called Jonesville and called the area by its geographical location. A post office as established and the name of the city were considered unacceptable as it might be confused with other cities bearing a similar name. After much debate, the post office relented and let the name stand and it has remained to this day.
